Staff at Singapore Sheraton Towers

This evening I had a beer at the lobby lounge after work. I found quite a collection of young international hotel employees. Interesting display of cooperations made possible by Sheraton Singapore.

From left:
Charlene (xie xido lei) from Cheng Du China, age 22 student Tourism. Father works for government is 51 yrs old. Mother is retired librarian at Sichuan University. She has been learning english since 15.

Amanda from Xi'an China, age 23, student hotel management. Xi'an is quite far inland and I will probably have opportunity to visit city in near future on business.

Simiao from Shen Yang, age 22, student hotel management. Shen Yang is in northeast China so she appreciates the warm Singapore winter.

Charming group of young ladies. They will soon return to their hometowns in China to finish their schooling in the tourism and hotel management. They have been in Singapore for 6 months.

Also two bartenders. These two guys are fortunate to be in the company of such fine young Chinese women all evening.

On the left is Phil, 38, from Singapore. Of course

like 70% of Singapore residents he is of Chinese

descent. He speaks fluent Mandarin.

On the right is Sethu, 26, from Perak, Malaysia.

He speaks no Chinese, but speaks Malay, and

Tamil, his ethnic tongue. Both speak excellent English.
