Out of Mao's Shadow by Philip Pan
I just started reading another book, and I must mention the 2nd chapter titled on "Searching for Lin Zhao's Soul" which describes the struggle of Hu Jie's documentary of political activist and poet Lin Zhao. Not only does Philip Pan capture Hu Jie's passionate zeal for the truth, but the story of the young woman Lin Zhao, who was executed in the mid sixties for her rightest views and criticisms of the Party. At least the first 83 pages have been great reading. See link to Philip Pan's website at the right. I would be interested to hear what my young colleagues know of Hu Jie's work or Lin Zhao. I'll find out next week once they return from Spring Festival.
